The participants will be staying in the Hotel Sierra
Madrona
in Fuencaliente, a remote mountain village of just
over 1,000 people near Almagro. Centuries removed in
pace and temperament from congested Madrid, Fuencaliente has been Cristina
Marsillach´s weekend home for many years.
The thermal springs from which the town gets its name
have been famous since Roman times. The area is known
for its pre-historic cave paintings and the town's
medieval origins are always close at hand in the
present day village.
Our host will be Antonio Alonso, owner and creator
of the
Hotel Sierra Madrona. The emphasis here is personal and
Antonio's touch is everywhere. The hotel is staffed by
Antonio's family. He is an inventive and adventurous
chef who has been kind enough to offer us a peek in
his kitchen. Lessons in the preparation and cooking of
traditional Spanish dishes will be available to all
who are interested. He is also happy to prepare
vegetarian dishes. Come hungry. Antonio will be
serving meals 5 times daily. (It's traditional.)
Breakfast, almuerzo, lunch, merienda, and dinner. He
has also arranged for laundry service and internet
access. The course price is based on double occupancy.
